The Beat of Gaia's Heart

An End and a Beginning: The Harry Potter Alliance

Today was another milestone. I went to see the final Harry Potter movie.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is so good I really wanted to buy a ticket for the next show and see it again right away, but I did have work to do. Sigh.

If you haven’t seen it yet, run, do not walk, to the nearest theater. But I have to agree with the critics about one thing. It was far too short -- especially for a bittersweet farewell to such a fantastic adventure.

The action scenes are stupendous. The special effects are incredible. I LOVED the dragon! The actors shine, all of them, with Snape finally coming into his own, and I got the shivers when Professor McGonagall called the statues to defend Hogwarts. Heck, I got the shivers when I saw that in the trailer. She was magnificent when she – well, just in case you haven’t seen it yet, I don’t want to give away anything and lessen the dramatic impact. Oh, and bring tissues if you happen to be the emotional type. You will need them.

The tremendous self-sacrifice displayed by the characters really do make one think, and when I saw a piece on the Web about the Harry Potter Alliance – a group I’d heard of a few months ago – I was really heartened to see that, although they took on a crusade against the horcruxes of modern life during the months between the release of Parts 1 and 2 of the Deathly Hallows, they aren’t calling it quits just because the second movie has been released. No, they’re tackling one of the biggest horcruxes of all: climate change.

You know I’ve been very outspoken, in my work, in my newsletters, and on this blog, about the damage man has done, and is doing, to the environment. Well, I’ve decided to join the Alliance in their fight. What better way to have a truly lasting effect on the lives of people all over the world than by taking on a cause that affects everyone, everywhere?

I ask you all to join me. Go to http://thehpalliance.org/ and sign up. The need is great, the weapon is love, and we are the weapon.
